Office Revival: In My Own Little Corner

In my own little corner, in my own little chair, I can be whatever I want to be.
— Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella

Maybe its procrastinating (it is), but I like to think of cleaning and organizing as creating a space for my ideas to grow and flourish. Making room for new ideas. Cleaning out old junk and papers and rearranging furniture. I find that clearing the physical space and making it comfortable does something for my mental space.

I’ve changed the view from my desk, reorganized, and plan to add some color to the walls (homemade art anyone? apartment walls are heartbreakingly beige). It’s a symbolic revival to me. The same transformation going on in my head is manifesting itself in my surrounding space. I am making the most of what I have, and making it work for me.

Create a space for yourself where you can get work done, relax, reflect, whatever. Somewhere just for you—an office, the corner of your bedroom, a minute in the bathroom, or even a mental state where you can escape to be alone with your thoughts. Whatever works best for you. It is reinvigorating when you feel burnt out, uninspired, and just need to collect yourself and push forward.

Fun facts:

  • I performed the song, "In My Own Little Corner," my freshman year of high school for a speech and drama class, it always stuck with me.
  • My family calls me Cinderangela…doing tasks for others is sort of my thing.
